(Pau darco has some potentially serious side effects. Some of the chemicals in pau darco, such as hydroquinone, are known to be toxic. High doses taken internally may cause liver and kidney damage. In animal studies, birth defects and deaths occurred among rats whose mothers were given lapachol during pregnancy. Pau darco should be avoided, especially by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Even fairly low doses of pau darco can cause dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea and can interfere with blood clotting. The resulting bleeding can cause anemia. In addition, pau darco, when taken by mouth, can interact with aspirin and blood-thinning drugs, further increasing the risk of bleeding. It may also increase the risk of bleeding in people with hemophilia or other clotting disorders. It caused some DNA mutations in rodents; and caused lighter-weight seminal vesicles (semen producing glands) in adult male rats, but it is not clear if it would have the same effects in humans.
The bark of the tree can sensitize skin and has caused asthma in work settings where people are exposed to the wood dust. Allergic reactions are possible.
Twelve commercial pau darco products that were tested in Canada showed that only one contained lapachol, which normally makes up about 7 percent of pau darco, suggesting the products likely contained other substances. Concerns persist that unrelated types of wood bark with similar colors are being substituted and sold as pau darco. It is very difficult to be sure what types of trees are included, since there are other trees from South America that look like pau darco but are not chemically similar.
The potential interactions between pau d'arco and other drugs and herbs should be considered. Some of these combinations may be dangerous. Always tell your doctor and pharmacist about any herbs you are taking.
Relying on this type of treatment alone and avoiding or delaying conventional medical care for cancer may have serious health consequences.).
Be abejo galima rasti ir priešingos informacijos.
