I've got a bit of time on my hands today, so I thought I'd expand my very first opinion, which looking back wasn't very good. A lot of people seem to have seen it, and now I am a bit more experienced writing these, I'd like to give it another go. If you've already read it, sorry!!
When I purchased this product, it was the first time I'd spent over a tenner on a single bit of makeup. I was feeling quite flush and thought it would be nice to treat myself.
Some time ago, you may have seen the advert of the gorgeous woman wearing this multi purpose product in the fashion magazines. The look was very strong and funky. As always, it is difficult to decide to spend a considerable amount on a make-up product - £28 for a swanky eyeshadow, basically. However, I, as they say, bought into the dream and ordered it from Wellbeing.com (extra advantage card points being the main incentive here)
I was quite exited when it arrived. The plain white box with Chanel emblazoned on the front made my heart race a little. The velvet feel pouch inside is a nice touch, and stops any damage occuring to the sleek black box contained within. The packaging is simple, but looks quite classy and expensive. There is also an fantastic applicator which separates into two bits which then fit together, neatly hiding away the business end - I assume to stop things getting stuck to it in your bag. It also prevents the inside of the case getting all mucky and smeared.
On opening the case, you are presented with fifteen softly glowing "perles" in shades of blue, yellow, green, peach and white. These shades are more pastel than I'd gathered from the advertisments. On application, the product glides nicely, but is unfortunatly impossible to see - unless you really slather it on. I wore it out to a meal with friends, and found that after an hour, it had all but worn away, leaving a greasy residue. Always one to soldier on, I decided that the fault was mine, and that I'd done something wrong while applying it. On the second attempt, I tried preparing the eye area with loose powder - and disaster struck. The Perles do not mix well with powder it would seem.
I have since used it as a highlighter, which does seem to work and gives a pretty effect.
Removal of this is not a problem. Any basic cleanser seems to do the job, and a toner removes the greasy residue nicely.
There is now a new colour combination available, which is in stronger shades of pinky purples. I've not tried this out yet, but it looks like it might be a bit more visible. I think I'll have to test it out before buying it - once bitten, twice shy, so to speak. It certainly looks more vivid though.
Six months on, I am still not overly impressed with it - although the trick of application seems to be using your fingers, making the applicator a bit redundant. I've found that by running my fingers over the whole palette, then patting it onto whatever bit I want to highlight, I do get a very nice shimmer. The staying power still isn't great though, and I probably won't buy it again.
To sum up, if you want a flash item in your handbag for all your mates to envy - fantastic, buy it without hesitation. If you want a very pretty highlighter, in a well presented package, again, I would say go ahead.
A good highlighter from a cheaper range would probably give you a similar effect though - I'd buy something else as this product does not give great value for money.
